Iheanacho keen on Manchester derby

By Daily Sports on September 7, 2016

Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho is keen to replace Sergio Aguero in Saturday’s Manchester derby, if he is selected by Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City’s Aguero is suspended for the big game against Manchester United at Old Trafford, which means that Iheanacho could get his first Premier League start under Guardiola.

The 19-year-old attacker, who scored a stunning goal for Nigeria in last Saturday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Tanzania in Uyo, is looking forward to the prospect.

“Sergio's suspension is a big loss, but we have a lot of big players to turn to.

“If I get picked I'm going to do my job. Games like this mean a lot, and it doesn't come bigger than a derby,” Iheanacho told The Sun.

Iheanacho signed a new deal recently that will keep him at the club until 2021.

He scored 14 goals in all competitions last season, and finished the campaign with the best goals-to-minute ratio in the Premier League. Guardiola has been impressed with his quality, and Iheanacho is enjoying life under the Catalan.

He says that Guardiola is one of the finest coaches in the game, and feels confident that City can achieve their lofty ambitions with him at the helm.

“He's a winner and I believe he will bring success to the club. His arrival has changed the mentality of everyone, because you are starting from scratch.

“It's been very good for me. He's one of the best managers in the world and I am learning a lot from him,” he said.
