The Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, has called on business mogul and philanthropist Femi Otedola to champion the upcoming Lagos Cycle Fest after the billionaire recently attracted attention with his cycling activities across notable cities around the world.
Otedola had shared videos of his cycling sessions in Paris, Singapore and the Maldives, and the LSSC is keen to tap into his hobby as a way of galvanising support for Lagos’ growing cycling community while also promoting environmental sustainability and healthy living.
“From Maldives to Singapore, and recently in Paris, Otedola has continued to apply more power to the pedal across these global cities, demonstrating physical fitness while also promoting clean mobility and zero-emission transportation,” Fatodu said in a statement shared with our correspondent.
“These important themes strongly align with the vision behind Lagos Cycle Fest, an innovative sporting initiative introduced by the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Sports Commission in collaboration with the British Cycling Association.”
Scheduled for August, the Lagos Cycle Fest is a wellness-focused cycling event designed to promote physical well-being, encourage clean mobility and advance conversations around zero-emission transportation.
Ahead of the event, the LSSC has partnered with British Cycling, engaging in high-level discussions centred on knowledge exchange, skills transfer and technical capacity building aimed at strengthening cycling development in Lagos State.
“This is where an influential cyclist like Otedola is well-suited to accentuate the essence of the initiative by the Lagos State Sports Commission in amplifying the gains of active living, which is important to everyone regardless of social class,” the DG added.
“In identifying with his growing passion for cycling and his visible promotion of healthy living across global cities, the Lagos State Sports Commission is optimistically calling on Otedola to champion Lagos Cycle Fest and inspire thousands of Lagos residents to embrace active living, clean mobility and a healthier lifestyle.”
