Nwabali linked with Kaizer Chiefs, Simba SC

By Daily Sports Nigeria on April 20, 2026

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is weighing his options ahead of a potential move this summer, with Kaizer Chiefs among the clubs interested in securing his services, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The 29-year-old, who rose from relative obscurity to become Nigeria’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper, has been without a club since leaving Chippa United in February 2026.

Nwabali’s decision to terminate his contract—despite having six months remaining—was a calculated gamble aimed at securing a higher-profile move. However, no deal has materialised so far.

While he is currently in Nigeria, former Nigeria and Moroka Swallows goalkeeper Peterside Idah has expressed support for a potential move to Kaizer Chiefs amid renewed interest.

Tanzanian side Simba SC and Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca are also reportedly in the race for his signature.

Interest from Kaizer Chiefs—popularly known as the Glamour Boys—intensified following Nwabali’s impressive performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where he helped the Super Eagles reach the final. However, a move did not materialise at the time.

That tournament marked his first major outing for Nigeria, and he has since established himself as a mainstay in the national team, although he missed the last international break.

“I’m aware of the Kaizer Chiefs interest, and if he signs for them, which I’m hearing he might, it would be a great move,” Idah told SportsBoom.

“Sometimes people underestimate South African clubs, but you’d be surprised at how much they can pay. The financial package can be very attractive.”

There have been reports that Nwabali’s salary demands contributed to his departure from Chippa United, but Idah believes Kaizer Chiefs can meet those expectations.

“Kaizer Chiefs are one of the ‘Big Three’ in South African football, alongside Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns. Any of these clubs can take good care of a player.

“It’s not just about playing; it’s about your future and financial stability,” he added.

Nwabali was previously linked with English side Crystal Palace and several Saudi Arabian clubs, but those speculations have since cooled without any concrete move.
