Godwin Okoko emerged the champion of the professional category of the Stephen Ebaretonbofa’s 50th Birthday Pro/Am Golf tournament at the Benin Golf Club, Edo State.
According to the results released on Sunday night, Okoko grossed 141 to beat Francis Epe, who played 144 gross to finish second, while the duo of Collins Odile and Sunday Olopade settled for third place with 149 gross.
In the one-week tournament, which ended on Saturday, Donatus Isuku with 158 gross emerged winner in the Senior Tour category just as Victor Enaigbe placed second with 163 gross.
However, Dr Emmanuel Ighodaro (11) emerged winner in the men’s handicap 0-12 with a net score of 70, while Jude Igbinadolor (12) placed second with 73, just as Felix Utaji (11) settled for third position with 74 net. Osazee Iyare won the best gross after he played 80 gross.
The men’s handicap 13-18 saw Gordon Imadiyi (17) emerge as the winner with 76 net; Ehi Akpata (18) placed second with 78 net, while former captain, Dr Charles Ajayi (16), with 79 net, placed third. Osayi Eghosa (28) won the handicap 19-28 ahead of Hon. John Yakubu (24) and Reuben Mgbodi (26).
In the ladies handicap 0-28 category, Ehis Igbinadolor (6) clinched the top prize with a net score of 74. Former Lady captains, Nkeiruka Awiaka (17) and Deborah Otabor (14) placed second and third, respectively. Maryann Shaibu won the best gross award with 94 gross, beating Sandra Emina on count back.
Tinyan Otuomagie (34) won the ladies handicap 29-36 category playing 71 net, just as Queen Aigbokhaode (32) and Paula Oghumah (31) secured second and third spots respectively. Omosefe Osaghae (31) won the ladies veteran prize award ahead of Oseluese Dawodu (27).
The tournament’s organising committee head, Kingsley Okunbor, said, “We are thrilled to celebrate our Captain, Engr. Stephen Ebaretonbofa’s 50th birthday in such a grand style. The tournament was a resounding success, highlighting the growth of golf in BCGS, Nigeria and the camaraderie among players.”
The tournament brought together over 250 golfers, including professionals and amateurs, who showcased their exceptional skills and sportsmanship.
The tournament also featured a gala dinner, where Ebaretonbofa was feted by friends, family, and fellow golfers.
