Tolu Arokodare has credited a tactical instruction from Rob Edwards for his decisive equaliser as Wolverhampton Wanderers fought back to secure a 2–2 draw against Brentford in their Premier League clash on Monday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigerian striker started the game on the bench at the Gtech Community Stadium, with Wolves considered underdogs due to their position in the table and Brentford’s strong home form.

Speaking after the match, Arokodare revealed that the Wolves manager had instructed him to make his physical presence count in the penalty area.

“He said I should go and try and score because we are getting a lot of chances and crosses and we needed a presence,” he told Sky Sports.

“My job was to come help him and I am glad I was able to score.”

Wolves nearly completed the turnaround moments later, with Arokodare coming close to a dramatic winner. The striker rose highest inside the six-yard box but saw his powerful header strike the crossbar.

Reflecting on the missed chance, he admitted he was unfortunate not to score again but remained satisfied with the result after his side’s response.

“It was a very good cross from Jackson Tchatchoua but I was quite unlucky because I hit the post. He was also unlucky in the second because he hit the post. It would have been great if those two chances went in but we will take the point because we started the game not as we wanted it, with two goals down, but we ended it well,” he added.

The visitors fell two goals behind before the 37th minute, with Michael Kayode and Igor Thiago finding the net to give the hosts a commanding lead.

Wolves, however, showed signs of recovery before the break when Adam Armstrong reduced the deficit, setting the stage for a second-half comeback.

Arokodare was introduced in the 75th minute in place of Jean-Ricner Bellegarde as Wolves pushed forward in search of an equaliser, and he made an immediate impact. Just three minutes after coming on, the forward stooped low at the far post to head home a cross from João Gomes, beating goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher to level the score.

Edwards praised the impact of his substitutes after the match, singling out Arokodare’s contribution in turning the tide.

“I thought all the subs came on and affected the game really well—Tolu got his goal; Angel and Rodrigo, I thought they all had an effect,” the manager said.

The goal was Arokodare’s third in the Premier League since his summer move from Genk, and his timely intervention could strengthen his case for a recall to the national team ahead of the upcoming international break under Eric Chelle.
