Nigeria’s Super Falcons will face Cameroon in two international friendlies next month as preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations gather pace, following the cancellation of a proposed four-nation tournament that had threatened to stall the team’s build-up, The PUNCH reports.

The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed on Monday that the reigning African champions will take on the Indomitable Lionesses in Yaounde during the FIFA Women’s International Window of February 24 to March 7, 2026.

“The Super Falcons and the Indomitable Lionesses will clash in the Cameroonian capital on Saturday, 28th February, and then again on Tuesday, 3rd March 2026,” the NFF said.

The two sides previously met in a preparatory friendly ahead of last year’s Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, with Nigeria securing a 2-0 victory at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta.

NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, said arrangements for the matches had been finalised in collaboration with the Cameroonian federation, underlining the federation’s objective of ensuring adequate preparation for both the continental tournament and global qualification.

“We have concluded everything that has to do with the two friendly matches, in conjunction with our counterpart body in Cameroon, FECAFOOT. Our commitment is to ensure that the Super Falcons are well-prepared to retain their WAFCON title in Morocco and qualify for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Brazil,” he said.

Cameroon’s football authorities also welcomed the fixtures, with FECAFOOT General Secretary Isaac Mandong stating, “We are excited about the opportunity to host the Nigeria national team and to strengthen the ties between our two federations through this collaboration.”

The friendlies come after the cancellation of a proposed four-nation invitational tournament that was to feature Nigeria, Benin, Senegal and hosts Ivory Coast.

According to Savid News, logistical challenges and coordination setbacks led to its cancellation on Monday, leaving preparations for the Super Falcons in disarray.

The disruption followed months of inactivity for the team after their WAFCON qualifying clash against Benin last October

CAF has confirmed that the 13th Women Africa Cup of Nations will be held in the Kingdom of Morocco from March 17 to April 3, 2026. All four semi-finalists will qualify directly for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Nigeria are the most successful side in the history of the competition, having won a record 10 titles, including their most recent triumph in Morocco last summer, where they defeated Tunisia, Botswana, Zambia, South Africa and the hosts en route to the trophy.

With the continental tournament also serving as a pathway to the 2027 Women’s World Cup, the upcoming friendlies against Cameroon are expected to restore competitive rhythm and offer head coach Justine Madugu and players a timely opportunity to rebuild cohesion ahead of their title defence in Morocco.
