Nigeria and Texas Tech high jumper Temitope Adeshina has been named on The Bowerman mid-indoor watch list, placing her among the top collegiate athletes this season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Bowerman is an annual award presented to the most outstanding athletes in collegiate track and field, and this season’s watch list was updated on Wednesday by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Last year, Nigerian hurdler Ezekiel Nathaniel was named among the three finalists for the prestigious 2025 Bowerman Award.
This year, Adeshina is one of three freshmen included on the list, alongside South Carolina’s JaMeesia Ford and Washington’s Hanna Moll.
Adeshina also becomes the fourth Texas Tech female athlete to be named on the list, joining Ruth Usoro (2021–22), Monae’ Nichols (2021) and Demisha Roswell (2022).
The reigning NCAA indoor champion and Nigerian national record holder underlined her credentials last week by clearing 1.97m to win her event.
She currently holds the NCAA’s top high jump mark of 1.96m, which ranks third in the world. She recorded the mark at the Corky Classic, setting a new Texas Tech record in the process.
At present, the Nigerian owns the top three high jump marks in Texas Tech history and six of the top 10 overall.
For Nigeria, she has broken the national record three times. She first cleared 1.97m at the NCAA Championships in June 2024, before equalling the mark at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships last season to qualify for the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
After her breakthrough year in 2024, when she set both the indoor and outdoor national records, Adeshina waited until 2025 to win her first NCAA title. She also competed at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she finished outside the medal positions.
The three-time national champion is the second Nigerian to compete in the women’s high jump at the Olympics, after Doreen Amata, who represented the country at the 2008 and 2016 Games.
