SUPER Eagles of Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle believes the hosts will be the more tense side during tomorrow night’s blockbuster Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final clash.
Chelle’s side and Morocco round off the semi-finals in the night fixture in Rabat, after Senegal and Egypt do battle earlier in the day in Tangier.
After some impressive performances in Morocco, included a one-sided 2-0 quarter-final win over Algeria, the Super Eagles have become some people’s favourites, and the expectations have grown back home.
However, Chelle believes Morocco, who are unbeaten in 23 games and have not lost on home soil in 16 years, have a heavier weight of expectations.
“After this match, we have another game, and we will prepare for it,” Chelle said after the Super Eagles blew away 2019 champions Algeria.
“Morocco is a strong team, and there will be pressure in front of the host nation. The best team will win. I am proud that we will face Morocco, and I hope it will be a good match, with the best team winning.”
On Saturday’s victory over Algeria, achieved courtesy of goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams, Chelle said: “The Nigerian players are very happy, and I am extremely proud of them. We really enjoyed the match. I have worked a lot since taking over my role with the Nigerian national team; we put in a lot of effort during preparations.
“My vision has been implemented in the Nigerian team, and we must continue working in this manner.
“The victory we achieved against Algeria was deserved. The match was fantastic, and I am very happy with the win.”
The semi-final between the Super Eagles and Morocco’s Atlas Lions is scheduled for the 65,000-capacity Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, with kick-off set for 9pm.
