Operators of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), the League Management Company (LMC), has entered into a "multi-year" partnership with one of the country's premium lager beer, Star.
The partnership was announced at a ceremony on Tuesday night in Lagos which makes Star lager the official beer of the Nigeria top-flight.
LMC chairman, Shehu Dikko, explained that the deal with Star, a premium lager beer under the stable of Nigeria Breweries Plc, is part of the league company's unbundling strategy as it concerns partnership and sponsorship of the NPFL.
Dikko expressed confidence that the deal with Star will contribute add value to the top division in the West African nation.
"Like we stated few months ago. Our plan has always remained to have several partners and sponsorship in different areas for the league. This is one of such partnership and sponsorship we have been talking about. We remain committed to getting partners who will work with us and take the league into the heart of Nigerians. We are positive that Star lager will contribute greatly towards helping us achieve this and we are very excited with the partnership," Dikko said.
The beer company's portfolio manager, Tokunbo Adodo, is excited that Star is the first beer brand to enter into partnership with the NPFL.
"Our objective is to bring the standard of other societies where football is at its best to our consumers. We expect to see those activities that will enable consumers to experience football like they have never seen before. We believe in this platform and our partnership is about moving the NPFL forward seeing that the gentlemen in the LMC have shown professionalism and adherence to global best practices. Star is the first beer brand to ever sponsor the NPFL and the partnership is worth every dime we are putting into it. The most important word is partnership. It is a win-win for Star and the NPFL all stakeholders," Adodo remarked.
Supersport.com understands that the partnership between the operators of the NPFL and the beer company will run for five years until 2021. However, financial details of the contract remain undisclosed.
