Rivers United coach Finidi George is looking forward to his side scoring more goals as they prepare to begin their CAF Champions League group stage campaign against reigning champions Pyramids in Egypt on Saturday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Pride of Rivers secured their sixth win of the 2025/26 Nigeria season on Sunday, beating Warri Wolves 2-1 in Port Harcourt and moving to the third position on the log with 23 points, just one behind leaders Ikorodu City.
But their momentum in the league would be halted with their continental engagement, which begins on the road, while they will return home next Friday to host RS Berkane of Morocco in their second group game of the CAF Champions League.
Although they have conceded the least number of goals in the league this season (four), Finidi has always charged his players to score more.
Sunday’s victory was the first time they have scored more than one goal in the NPFL this season, and the gaffer wants his players to build on that momentum as they go into the continent.
“I like the reaction of my players because it is not easy to be a goal down at home. They gave us a fight, but we got the three points,” Finidi said via the club’s media team.
“I’m quite happy that we have scored two; maybe by the next game, we can score three. Let’s take it one game at a time. We just have to enjoy this now and focus on the Pyramid.”
Rivers United currently have an outstanding game in the league and their continental schedule means they will accumulate two more games.
