Ahead of the November international break, Super Eagles stars couldn’t score statement goals at their clubs as they regroup for the crucial World Cup playoffs in Morocco. ABIODUN ADEWALE reports.

TURKEY

Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray)

Fresh from scoring a hat-trick against Ajax in midweek, Osimhen was on parade for 90 minutes on Sunday, but he could not extend his scoring streak for Galatasaray, as the Turkish champions slumped to their first league defeat at Kocaelispor. Daniel Agyei’s goal for the hosts on the stroke of halftime was the difference.

The Nigerian striker had the ball in the back of the net in the 83rd minute, but his celebration was cut short after a VAR review ruled out his effort for offside. The 26-year-old remains on nine goals in 12 games across all competitions for the club, but the defeat saw the gap between them and rivals Fenerbahce reduced to one point.

ENGLAND

Frank Onyeka (Brentford)

Nigeria’s all-important fourth goal hero in the last qualifying match against the Benin Republic last month, Onyeka, was an unused substitute in Brentford’s 3-1 win over Newcastle on Sunday. The midfielder has not featured in their last two EPL games, with his most recent heavy involvement coming against Grimsby in the EFL Cup on October 28.

Chrisantus Uche (Crystal Palace)

On-loan midfielder Uche, is still struggling to get enough playing time in the EPL at Crystal Palace, as he was benched again during their goalless draw at Brighton. He has only played three games in the league without starting any.

Taiwo Awoniyi (Nottingham Forest)

Awoniyi has continued his steady fight for a spot in the Nottingham Forest team. He came on as a second half substitute in their 3-1 win over Leeds on Sunday and played 32 minutes, marking his fourth league appearance this season. He is however, yet to score this season.

Chiamaka Nnadozie (Brighton)

Super Falcons goalkeeper, made three crucial saves to earn Brighton Women a 1-1 draw at Liverpool. The only attemp she didn’t get her hands on led to the hosts goal in the 26th minute before Sweden forward Rusul Kafaji ensured a share of the spoils for Brighton at the death.

Rofiat Imuran (London City)

Former Falconets defender Imuran put in a good shift for 90 minutes as London City Lionesses beat Tottenham 4-2. It was their fourth win in eight games this season and the 21-year-old has been involved in six of them.

Toni Payne (Everton)

Nigeria midfielder Payne made her first goal contribution of the season for Everton Women during their 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester City Women. She set up Kelly Gago for Everton’s equaliser just before halftime after the visitors had gone ahead earlier. They however, conceded again after the restart and suffered their fifth defeat of the season. It was also her first goal involvement since making an assist against Liverpool in May

SPAIN

Edna Imade (Real Sociedad Women)

Real Sociedad put three past Espanyol for a nervy 3-2 away win in the Liga F on Sunday, but the Nigeria-eligible Imade was surprisingly missing among the scorers and providers despite playing 90 minutes. It ended her five-game scoring streak as she remains on an impressive seven goals in eight matches. She also won the Liga F Player of The Month Award for October.

GREECE

Bruno Onyemachi (Olympiacos)

Left-back Onyemaechi sat out of his second consecutive game for Olympiakos as the Greece giants recorded a 3-1 win at Kifisia. He has played seven games this season across all competitions for the club.

FRANCE

Terem Moffi (Nice)

Moffi marked his return from a calf injury with a 12-minute appearance in Nice 2-1 defeat at Metz. Things started nicely for the visitors as they drew first blood in the 35th minute, but they failed to withstand the pressure of their hosts in the second half, eventually losing 2-1.

Despite being hampered by injuries, Moffi has played eight games this season and has two goals.

ITALY

Ademola Lookman (Atalanta)

After the brawl with Ivan Juric in midweek, Lookman returned to the starting lineup for Atalanta in their home game against Sassuolo, which ended in a humiliating 3-0 defeat.  Lookman thought he had scored nine minutes into the game with a powerful strike from 12 yards, but it was cleared off the line by Jay Idzes with some brave defending, leaving him with a black eye. He was on for 78 minutes in his seventh league game of the season.

Maduka Okoye (Udinese)

As he prepares for his return to the national team after his suspension, Okoye will resume camp off the back of a 2-0 defeat at Roma.

BELGIUM

Raphael Onyedika (Club Brugge)

Fully recovered from a muscle injury, Onyedika featured for the third straight game for Brugge on Sunday, when they lost 1-0 at Anderlecht. The Super Eagles midfielder played the entire duration of the game.

PORTUGAL

Zaidu Sanusi (Porto)

There was no place for the left-back in Porto’s trip to Famalicao on Sunday. He has played seven of their league games this season, scoring one goal plus one assist.
