Anambra First Lady Bids Farewell To Team Anambra, Charges Them To Surpass Records At 2025 NYG In Asaba

By Daily Sports Nigeria on August 28, 2025

Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra state governor, has charged Team Anambra athletes to surpass their previous records as they depart for the 2025 National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

Addressing 125 contingents at the Retreat Centre, Okpuno, Awka, Nonye, who represented her husband, Gov. Chukwuma Soludo, bid the athletes farewell to Asaba and encouraged them to stay focused, disciplined, and determined to bring glory to the state.

She reminded the team of their remarkable feat in the last edition of the games, where they clinched a total of 26 medals nine gold, nine silver, and eight bronze finishing in eighth place on the medals table.

While commending the Chairman of the Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Patrick Estate Onyedum, for his outstanding leadership, she assured the athletes that the spirit of the Governor and herself would be with them throughout the competition.

She urged them to see themselves as ambassadors of Anambra, stressing the need to build on their steady improvement and set new records.

In his remarks, Onyedum expressed appreciation to the Governor and the First Lady for their unwavering support for sports in the state.

He noted that under Governor Soludo’s administration, Anambra had never missed a national competition, reflecting the government’s strong commitment to grassroots sports development.

Onyedum added that the success of Team Anambra is rooted in the Anambra Sports Solution Initiative (ANSSI), a grassroots program that continues to nurture young talents and ensure only athletes within the approved age bracket represent the state.

He pledged that Team Anambra would not only sustain their performance but also aim higher to make the state a shining light in Nigerian sports.

The 2025 National Youth Games is scheduled to hold in Asaba, Delta State, where Team Anambra will once again compete for medals and glory.
