Fasuba’s daughter ends U-15 reign with double gold

By Daily Sports Nigeria on August 12, 2025

Annabelle Fasuba, the daughter of former Nigerian sprinter Olusoji Fasuba, has signed off from the girls’ U-15 category over the weekend, winning the 100m and 200m events at the England Athletics Age Group Championships over the weekend, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The young Fasuba lowered the championship record from 11.82s to an incredible 11.73s on Saturday, before winning her favourite event, the 200m, in a time of 24.02s.

In the 100m, she ran 11.94s into a tough -2.5 headwind and later improved it to 11.84s (-0.3) in the semi-finals and qualified as the fastest overall.

The 13-year-old had a slow start in the final but came powering through from behind her rivals, storming past the field in the last metres to win in 11.73s – a new personal best and championship record.

She returned for the 200m on Sunday, running a time of 25.04s in a smoothly executed race.

Annabelle also controlled the final, storming into the lead before the end of the bend and holding on to her lead to sign off at her last U-15 national championship.

Earlier this year, she broke the City of Plymouth’s 48-year 100m record on her first outdoor outing in 2025 at their Spring Warm-up Meeting at Brickfields, Devonport, Plymouth. The previous record was set by Jill Davies in 1976.

Fasuba’s daughter began to gain prominence on the track last year after setting two new UK records in the U-15 Girls 100m and 200m in one week in May 2024.

According to her father, Annabelle’s track journey started barely two years ago.

“Special congratulations to Annabelle’s coach Neal Edwards, who has stood by her from the very beginning. In just one year and nine months, you have produced a 60m, 100m and 200m national champion.”

Her father, Fasuba, won the African Championships title in 2004 and was also a member of the Nigerian team that won bronze in the 4 x 100 m relay at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
