AFC Toronto are celebrating their star forward, Esther Okoronkwo , after her decisive performance helped Nigeria clinch a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in a thrilling come-from-behind victory over Morocco on Saturday night in Rabat.

The Super Falcons won 3-2 in an electrifying final at Stade Olympique de Rabat, overcoming a two-goal deficit to lift the trophy once again. Okoronkwo was the heartbeat of Nigeria’s remarkable comeback, scoring one goal and assisting two more, earning herself the Woman of the Match award.

Hosts Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses stunned the packed stadium early, with captain Ghizlane Chebbak opening the scoring in the 13th minute before Saana Mssoudy doubled their advantage by the 24th minute. The home crowd sensed history, but the resilient Falcons refused to buckle.

Nigeria’s fightback began in the 64th minute when Okoronkwo coolly converted a penalty to get the Falcons on the board. Seven minutes later, she proved her strength and vision by powering into the Moroccan box and threading a perfect pass to Folasade Ijamilusi, who scored to cut the deficit to one.

Despite a VAR-checked handball appeal against Nigeria’s Tosin Demehin being overturned in the 78th minute, the momentum was firmly with the Falcons. Substitute Jennifer Echegini sealed the dramatic win in the 88th minute by finishing off another precise set-piece delivery from Okoronkwo.

AFC Toronto shared their pride on social media, posting:

“Big game. Big plays. Big impact. A massive performance from our very own Esther Okoronkwo on the global stage, leading the team in a thrilling comeback and adding a WAFCON Champions title to her name.

“WAFCON CHAMP. Esther Okoronkwo didn’t just show up — she showed out. 1 goal. 2 assists. All heart. All pride.”

“Okoronkwo stepped up when it mattered most. A complete performance in the final: 1 goal, 2 assists, and Woman of the Match to cap it off. Proud doesn’t even begin to cover it.”

This victory not only adds a tenth WAFCON trophy to Nigeria’s illustrious history but also secures a one-million-dollar prize, capping a mission that captured global admiration. The Super Falcons maintain their unbeaten record in Women’s AFCON finals, with Okoronkwo’s inspiring display written in Nigeria’s football history books.
