By Victor Enyinnaya on July 26, 2025

No doubt from which ever angle you may be looking at it, the WAFCON final encounter between hosts Morocco and 9th times champions, Nigeria is not only the focus around the football Community in the world today and so it meets to the top billing of grudge game involving two giant squads in African continent. Therefore the stage is already set and the time is 9 pm Nigerian time.

Though, the Super Falcons will be going into the epic game with intimidating record of lifting the trophy 9 times against their day's opponent not seeing her back in terms of such fate.

Since the football summit began in the North Africa country, various competing countries showed their stuffs which signified the steady growth of the game in our continent.

It remains gladden to note that the hosts, the Atlas Lionesses have shown strength and stronger character which brought the side this far. It further portrayed and sent strong signal to previous opponents and their day's nemesis, Nigeria that another tougher encounter looms in horizon today.

A “fight to finish” setting a “make or mar” game. A “now or never” showpiece that would confine teeming fans on the edges of their seats set to ensue.  These and more would be the external dynamics of today's WAFCON Cup final fantasy which will tilt towards the fight to a photo finish scenario.

No second thoughts from the bench that wants to win this game rather every tactical, technical and instructions would lean towards quick thinking.

In short, precision, as this match final points towards a difficult affair.  There would be no much chance creation by both countries; however any of them that makes use of half or quarter chance effectively would lift the converted trophy. Both teams would be careful from start to finish. The side that got its match plan right and play strictly to it would be better off.

Great enough, Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu, is aware of this uphill task ahead today.  Morocco would be back with their partisan/vocal crowd routing for her team to go for the kill against her giant West African opponents.

Definitely there won't be dull moments as the clock ticks. The Super Falcons coach must involve game changing strategies as it happened against other opponents till this moment of truth where the stakes and tide are high.

Though, The Eyes of Players, Coaches, Analysts are firmly fixed originally from  pre-match interviews, emotional post-game reviews, to analyses, the voices behind the 2024 WAFON have delivered a compelling narrative beyond the football pitches.

As the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) heads into a thrilling finale today, the past three weeks have delivered a rich mix of drama, heartbreaks, joy, hold and history.

After 24 matches across beautiful five cities, the women’s football summit, which started on July 5, is now down to four teams — two in the final and the other two in the third-place game.

The Super Falcons and Morocco's Atlas Lionesses play in today’s final match, for Nigeria, the game is part of her campaign dubbed “Mission X” as they aim for a record-extending/breaking 10th WAFCON title.

Meanwhile, Ghana and South Africa will clash in the losers final, which will come before the final.

It would be recalled that en route to the final, the Super Falcons have been dominant, playing five matches, winning four and drawing just one — against Tunisia in a Group B clash. Morocco, on the other hand, has a similar unbeaten path, aiming to surpass their second-place outing in 2022.

Beyond the final, this year’s tournament has been an inspiring story of unfiltered passion, resilience, frills, drills, thrills and drive, a vivid pointer to the growth of women’s football in Africa, 27 years after the first edition was held in Abeokuta, Ogun State Nigeria, Yours truly recall covering that game at Abeokuta that year.

‘For instance, no one expected Ghana To Come this Far’, Says Black Queens’ Coach ahead of their third-place game against South Africa, Ghana’s Black Queens are fine-tuning preparations for the match.

The players and coaching staff want to bow out of the tournament in style by winning a bronze medal. In his pre-match conference, Ghana’s coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren hails his team for reaching the last four of the competition, before agonizingly bowing out to Morocco in the semi-final.

Despite falling short against the hosts, Bjorkegren is full of praise for the West African side, saying the team was not given a chance at the beginning of the competition.

“What we are doing in this tournament is really good,” said Bjorkegren, who wants to win the game against South Africa.

As we tilt towards a beautiful final, noted that it would be the story of the survival of the fittest.

Go, Super Falcons, Go!!
