W’Cup qualifiers: Oyede trims Female Yellow Greens squad

By Daily Sports Nigeria on July 23, 2025

Head coach of the Nigeria senior women’s cricket team, Leke Oyede, has dropped four players from the initial 22-player roster for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers in Namibia after a 14-day open camp in Benin City, Edo State, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The dropped players are women’s U-19 wicket keeper at the World Cup in Malaysia earlier this year, Deborah Bassey, Habibat Oremeyi, Ayomide Abdulrasaq and Rukayat Abdulrasaq.

Following the decision, 18 players will resume closed-camping in Lagos on Saturday, July 26, before the final 15-player roster is released.

Nigeria will battle Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia and two other teams from Division 2 at the qualifiers, which will be held from August 28 to September 7.

Division 2 is currently on in Botswana and will end on Saturday, July 26, with the top two teams advancing to Division 1.

The top two teams from the Africa Qualifiers will advance to the global qualifiers, which will be played later in the year.

The 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup will be played in England.
