Nigeria Premier Football League champions Remo Stars held a club gala to mark their maiden triumph on Monday, as chairman of the club, Kunle Soname, gave a sum of N25m to the team while also gifting the club’s best player, Olamilekan Adedayo, a brand new SUV car.
Remo Stars won the 2024/25 NPFL title with 71 points, beating Rivers United to the crown by seven points and also ending their agonising wait for their first-ever title, having gone close in the previous two seasons.
Two months after their triumph and as they prepare for a new season, the club’s chairman and businessman, Soname, hosted the team on Monday, and splashed cash gifts on them and the female team, Remo Stars Ladies.
Soname gave the league champions N25m while their female team, who reached the Super Six playoff of the Nigeria Women’s Football League, also got N10m.
Fresh from winning the Gothia Cup in Sweden, Remo Stars’ youth team, Beyond Limits, also earned N5m while the supporters club was rewarded with N2m.
The icing on the cake was the presentation of a brand new SUV car to the club’s best player from last season, Adedayo, who played a key role in their title run.
Adedayo was the club’s highest goal scorer last term with seven goals plus one assist, and most of his goals were crucial goals which sealed three points in decisive games.
Some of his goals included a belter and match-winner against Niger Tornadoes, which ultimately sealed the title, as well as a similar goal during their spirited 3-2 comeback win against Abia Warriors in Ikenne.
Having lifted the NPFL title, the club will hope to make it into the group stages of the CAF Champions League for the first time as well after two failed attempts.
