Nigeria’s highest-ranked women’s player, Rofiat Abdulazeez, and her Kwara teammate, Blessing Issac, completed a 1-2 finish in the women’s singles of the squash event at the 2024 National Sports Festival in Ogun State on Friday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

After days of battle in the team events, it was time to decide the singles events on Friday at the Alake Sports Complex in Ijeja, Abeokuta.

Abdulazeez outclassed Isaac in the all-Kwara final, defeating her 11-6 in the first set, and 11-7 in the second set before the latter crashed out in the third set, to eventually hand the former the ultimate prize.

Jadesola Olatunji of Lagos State and Akwa Ibom’s Delight Allison shared the bronze.

In the men’s final, four-time Nigerian champion, Adegoke Onaopemipo, representing Lagos State, reigned supreme, beating the home top seed, Gabriel Olufunmilayo of Edo State 3-1, in the final.

Olufunlilayo’s Edo State teammate, Abel Shredrack and Promise James of Akwa Ibom shared the bronze to complete the podium for the men’s event.
