Golden Eaglets cruise into semi-finals

By Daily Sports Nigeria on May 24, 2025

Five-time world champions Golden Eaglets cruised into the semi-finals of the football event at the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival in Ogun State after delivering a commanding 5-0 victory over Ebonyi State in Friday’s quarter-final, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Abdulmuiz Adeleke, who had opened his account with the first goal in Monday’s 2-1 win over Edo State, proved to be the star of the show against Ebonyi State, netting a brace to help propel the Eaglets into the last four of the competition.

Mohammed Imrana, who scored the second goal in the earlier victory against Edo State, was also among the goals on Friday, though his afternoon was marred when he received a red card in the closing minutes of the encounter.

Destiny Samuel and Emmanuel Ochigbo completed the scoring to ensure a comprehensive victory for the young national team.

The emphatic win demonstrated the quality and depth within the Golden Eaglets squad as they continue their quest for glory at the National Sports Festival. The five-goal margin of victory will provide a significant confidence boost as they prepare for the semi-final.

The National Sports Festival has provided an excellent platform for Nigeria’s young footballers to showcase their talents, with both the Golden Eaglets and Flamingos using the competition as preparation for future international assignments.
