Nigeria has joined the Rio Olympics medal table, with self-sponsored Chierika ‘Coco’ Ukogu clinching the women’s single silver medal in rowing.
Chierika, who was born on October 2, 1992 in the United States, is a professional rower.
After initial postponement of the semi-finals due to bad weather, Ukogu participated in in the first 1000m in the Semifinal C/D1 Single Sculls Rowing event on Friday.
She initially finished third with a 4:04.26.
With a total time of 8:18:55, she finished fourth which qualified her for the finals.
She competed in Final D of women’s Single Sculls Rowing event on Saturday in lane 4.
Chierika finished second in a time of 7:44:76
During the 2015 FISA African Olympic Qualification Regatta, she qualified to represent Nigeria at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, making her the first Nigerian to achieve such a feat.
