World record holder in the women’s 110m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, will compete in the season opener of this year’s Diamond League in Xiamen, China, on Saturday (today), marking her first race in the hurdles since crashing out of the Paris Olympics in August 2024, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Amusan was confirmed as one of the entrants for the Xiamen Diamond League last week.
The three-time Diamond League winner has led a low life off the tracks and returned for her first race of the season in the 100m last month, running a season’s best of 11.28s to win the Velocity Fest 16 in Kingston, Jamaica.
She also worked with Usain Bolt’s coach, Glen Mills, during the off-season, sending signals of a strong comeback after a disappointing end to last season.
The line-up includes Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, the world indoor record holder in the 60m hurdles and ranked seventh globally; reigning world champion Danielle Williams of Jamaica and top American contenders such as Grace Stark, who has a world-leading time of 12.51s this year, Tonea Marshall, and Nia Ali.
Former Olympic champion Camacho-Quinn holds the meeting record at the meet with a time of 12.45s, which she ran last year.
The 28-year-old Nigerian will line up in lane eight of the star-studded event.
The Xiamen Diamond League will take place at the Egret Stadium and will feature nine track and seven field events in the main program, marking the third edition of the Chinese leg of the prestigious athletics series.
Other headliners include Swedish pole vault sensation Mondo Duplantis, Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh, American hurdler Grant Holloway, and Botswana’s 200 metres Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo.
