MTN CHAMPS final gets new date

By Daily Sports Nigeria on April 24, 2025

The third and final leg of MTN CHAMPS Season 3 has been rescheduled to take place from May 6 to 9 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, having been originally scheduled for April 30 to May 3.

The postponement comes as a mark of respect following the passing of MTN’s founding Chairman in Nigeria, Pascal Dozie, who died on April 8.

“His legacy remains deeply woven into the fabric of MTN, and we join his family and loved ones in mourning this great loss. As a mark of honour and respect, we have rescheduled the MTN CHAMPS Grand Final, which will bring together top talent from across the country for what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to Season 3,” the organisers stated.

The championship has attracted significant interest, with 1,737 athletes already registered for the competition, accounting for 4,636 event entries. The participants are spread across different age categories, comprising 321 Cadets (U-14), 596 Youth (U-17), 423 Juniors (U-20) and 397 Seniors (no age limit).

As part of the preparations for the event, an athletes’ screening will take place during bib collection on May 4 and 5. All Cadet and Youth athletes have been urged to be present for screening as their bibs are being collected to remain on the start lists for their events.

Athletes in the Cadet and Youth categories are required to provide a photocopy of valid identification that clearly shows their date of birth. Accepted documents include birth certificates, international passports, and official school records.

Additionally, a signed Parental Consent Form is mandatory for athletes in the Cadet, Youth, and Junior categories. This form must be signed by at least one parent or legal guardian.

The MTN CHAMPS has established itself as one of Nigeria’s premier athletics development programmes, providing a platform for young talent to showcase their skills and potentially launch their careers in the sport.
