Adebayo battles Tanzanian for WBO title

By Daily Sports Nigeria on March 26, 2025

Nigerian boxing sensation Basit “Jokerboy” Adebayo prepares to fight for the World Boxing Organization Youth International lightweight title against Tanzanian challenger Suleiman Sheha on April 18, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The 20-year-old Nigerian champion, fresh from his dominant national lightweight title victory in February, will square off against the 22-year-old Tanzanian powerhouse at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Adebayo’s journey to this pivotal moment has been nothing short of remarkable. Just last month, he clinched the vacant National lightweight title with a commanding unanimous decision victory against Segun Gbobaniyi, a performance that punctuated his potential with a first-round knockdown.

“This is a moment of pure joy for me,” Adebayo said following his national title triumph.

“Winning the national title has been a dream, and I’m proud to have achieved it in such a convincing manner.”

The upcoming WBO Youth International Lightweight Title fight represents a crucial step in the young boxer’s career. Sheha, his Tanzanian opponent, arrives with his own reputation as a formidable challenger, promising a clash that boxing enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating.

Event organisers Balmoral Group, who have been instrumental in providing platforms for emerging boxing talents, continue to support young fighters like Adebayo. Ezekiel Adamu, CEO of Balmoral Group, has previously praised the quality of boxing talent emerging from such events.

The fight promises to be a thrilling encounter between two young warriors at the peak of their early careers. Adebayo, known by his moniker “Jokerboy”, has already demonstrated his ability to dominate in the ring, with his national title victory serving as a testament to his skill and determination.

Sheha, representing Tanzania, brings his own brand of ferocity to the contest. At 22 years old, he is determined to upset the Nigerian fighter and claim the prestigious WBO Youth International lightweight title.

As the fight approaches, boxing enthusiasts and experts are closely watching this potential breakthrough moment for the young Nigerian boxer. A victory would further cement Adebayo’s status as a rising star in the lightweight division and potentially open doors to more significant international opportunities.
