Ikioye Orutugu, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra has called for partnership between the Command and the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) towards creating a closer relationship between security agencies and the communities in the state.
Orutugu made the call while receiving members of SWAN, Anambra Chapter in his office on Monday.
Orutugu's commitment to community policing and public engagement is evident in his efforts to partner with various stakeholders, to end violent crimes in the State.
The CP said the sports competitions with the market community and relevant stakeholders would enhance Police's relationship with the public, deepen trust among them and promote peace in the society.
“I want to propose a partnership with SWAN to organise a sports competition between security agencies and the market community.
According to him, this initiative is a great way to promote social cohesion and improve communication between law enforcement and the public.
“This will create a positive and engaging environment for the public, and by doing so, showcase the importance of sports in building bridges between law enforcement and the community,” he said.
In his remark, Mr Chimezie Anaso, Chairman of SWAN in Anambra thanked the CP for his warm reception and expressed readiness of the association to partner with the Command to actualize its goals.
Anaso said SWAN would collaborate with the Police Command to review the proposal and come up with a work plan for the programme.
