Unbeaten Nigerian boxer Idris Gbadamosi has been selected to feature in the first-ever Boxing World Cup scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia in April, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The knockout specialist, who holds a perfect professional record of 7-0-0 with six knockouts, will represent Nigeria at the WBC Riyadh Season Boxing Grand Prix, a tournament designed to discover and showcase the next generation of boxing superstars.

The competition will feature 128 athletes from 41 participating countries, with 32 boxers competing in each of the four weight divisions – featherweight, super-lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight.

Gbadamosi, who fights out of Always Boxing Club, will compete in the featherweight division where his explosive power and technical prowess are expected to make him a formidable contender.

The WBC Riyadh Season Boxing Grand Prix introduces several innovative rules to enhance the viewing experience, including no draws, with every bout requiring a decisive result.

There will also be open scoring after rounds two, four, and six, providing transparency and excitement for both boxers and spectators. Additionally, instant replay technology will be employed to ensure fair and accurate officiating.

Born and raised in Bariga, Lagos State, Gbadamosi has carved out an impressive record in Dubai since relocating in 2021, following support from Nathaniel Olajide, who discovered the talented boxer on social media.

As an amateur in Nigeria, Gbadamosi compiled an exceptional record of 74 fights with 70 wins and just four losses before turning professional. His professional debut came against Filipino Shandle Eduardo on October 23, 2021, where he secured a first-round knockout, immediately signalling his potential.

The featherweight boxer has continued his dominant form since then, dispatching opponents with clinical efficiency. His knockout victims include Ugandan Fahad Mulindwa (third round), Ugandan Daniel Ssebunya (first round), UAE native Bashir Kigozi (third round), Indian boxer Manikandan Venugopal (fourth round) and Egyptian Mohammed Abdelghany (first round).

When previously asked about his knockout prowess, Gbadamosi told PUNCH Sports Extra, “Boxing is unpredictable, you can’t just say you want to go for a knockout, it’s not that easy. The opponent is also training, knockouts happen unexpectedly. I never go for a knockout but I train very hard like six, eight hours.”

The selection for the WBC Riyadh Season Boxing Grand Prix represents a significant milestone in Gbadamosi’s promising career, offering him an international platform to showcase his talents against some of the world’s best-emerging boxers.
