Fast rising boxer Basit Adebayo has clinched the vacant National Lightweight Title after a dominant performance against Segun Gbobaniyi at the Balmoral Convention Centre last weekend.

The boxer scored a decisive unanimous decision victory after a thrilling ten-round contest, punctuated by a first-round knockdown that set the tone for his triumph.

“This is a moment of pure joy for me,” said a jubilant Adebayo after the fight.

“Winning the national title has been a dream, and I’m proud to have achieved it in such a convincing manner.”

Event organisers Balmoral Group delivered on their promise of an action-packed “Fight Night”, with Adebayo’s headline bout proving to be the highlight of the evening.

Ezekiel Adamu, CEO of Balmoral Group, praised the quality of boxing on display.

“This is exactly what we envisioned when we launched our monthly fight series, showcasing Nigeria’s boxing talent and providing a platform for these athletes to shine,” he said.

In other bouts, Rilwan Lawal outpointed Taofeeq Ganiyu in an eight-round featherweight clash, while Yusuf Adisa secured a unanimous decision victory over Babatunde Oni in their super-bantamweight contest.

Abiodun Adeniyi triumphed over Fatai Balogun after four rounds in the cruiserweight division, and Muritador Monyasahu delivered an emphatic stoppage, knocking out Idowu Okusote in the second round.

Dr Rafiu Oladipo, President of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control, congratulated Adebayo and the organisers saying, “This event continues to demonstrate the depth of talent in Nigerian boxing.”

NBBofC Secretary General Remi Aboderin commended the fighters for their performances, describing the night as a major success.

“From the opening bell to the final fight, every boxer gave it their all. This is what boxing should be about; the talent, grit, and determination,” Aboderin said.

The victory cements Adebayo’s status as a rising star in the lightweight division, with fans and experts alike eagerly anticipating his future bouts.
