By Daily Sports Nigeria on January 22, 2025

Wife of former Deputy President of the Senate Mrs. Nwanneka Ekweremadu has returned to Nigeria amidst jubilation in the State Capital, Enugu and Mpu, their country home.

Nwanneka, was sentenced alongside her husband Chief Ike Ekweremadu in controversial circumstances.

While Ekweremadu received a sentence of 9 years and 8 months from Justice Jeremy Johnson at the Old Bailey, his wife was handed a 4-year and 6-month term, while their intermediary, Dr. Obinna Obeta, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The couple and Obeta were convicted of conspiracy to arrange for a young man, identified as David Nwamini, to travel to Britain, where he was to be exploited for his kidney, needed for their ailing daughter, Sonia.

After a six-week trial and conviction at London’s Central Criminal Court, the Ekweremadu and their doctor were found guilty of violating the Modern Slavery Act on May 5, 2023.

A family source confirmed that Mrs. Ekweremadu arrived in Abuja on Tuesday evening.

Her return has sparked off jubilation by supporters, friends and relations.

Details of her return are not yet disclosed but our source confirmed that the former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu is also being expected back.
