Chelsea’s Reece James out until 2025 after hamstring injury – Report

By Daily Sports Nigeria on November 29, 2024

Chelsea captain Reece James is unlikely to feature again in 2024 after his latest hamstring injury, with his recovery potentially extending into the new year.

A report by The Telegraph on Thursday noted that following a scan earlier this week, Chelsea have not confirmed an exact timeframe for the defender’s return but are committed to providing comprehensive physical and emotional support during his rehabilitation.

“Chelsea have not put an exact timeframe on James’ return and have not confirmed the outcome of this week’s scan. But it is understood that James may not return until the new year, depending on how his recovery goes.

“It is believed that while James is again out with a hamstring injury, his latest problem is not viewed as a recurrence of a previous injury,” the report said.

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca emphasised the importance of reducing pressure on the 24-year-old, saying the club is focused on facilitating a measured recovery rather than setting rigid deadlines.

James, who has only played 654 minutes since being named Chelsea captain 15 months ago, was reportedly devastated by the news. The club is aware of the mental toll injuries have taken on him and is determined to offer full support.

Last December, James shared his struggles with negativity during his recovery from a hamstring surgery, writing, “Since this injury, I’ve had a good amount of support but significantly more hate and negativity. Believe me, I don’t want to be injured; I’m happiest when I’m playing football. Thanks to the understanding people that support me despite the highs or the lows, it goes a long way.”

Following confirmation of his latest setback last week, James addressed fans on social media.

“This message is to the people that understand and have respect for what I’m going through… I appreciate you so much, your support and kind words go further than you could ever imagine.

“I’m doing OK, been better and also been worse. Another challenge ahead accepted. Eventually, I’ll come out on top. Against all odds. Lastly, I’d like to touch on the festive period coming; these times are tough for everyone! I wish you all a happy and peaceful festive season,” he said.

Chelsea face a packed December schedule with nine fixtures, including Premier League clashes against Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, concluding the year with a trip to Ipswich Town.

Despite the intense demands, the club is focused on ensuring James’s long-term fitness over a rushed return to the pitch.
