By Daily Sports Nigeria on November 5, 2024

The Nigeria U-17 women’s team, Flamingos, have carted home the Fair Play Trophy of the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which was concluded on Sunday in the Dominican Republic, with North Korea lifting the trophy at the expense of Spain following a 4-3 penalty win in the final.

Nigeria exited the tournament at the quarterfinals following a 2-0 defeat to the USA, but Bankole Olowookere’s side emerged as the team with the best disciplinary record following near-perfect conduct in four matches, including group encounters with New Zealand, Ecuador, and the host nation Dominican Republic.

Shakirat Moshood and Celia Segura tied for the Bronze Boot award with four goals each, but the Spanish forward narrowly prevailed due to the assist (2-1).

Korea DPR winger wins the Adidas Golden Ball, Spain’s Pau Comendador and Celia Segura collect a pair of individual honours, while Evan O’Steen takes home the Adidas Golden Glove.

Korea DPR’s Jon Il-chong has been crowned the Adidas Golden Ball winner at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Dominican Republic 2024™. The dynamic winger saw off the challenge of a pair of Spanish forwards as Pau Comendador picked up the Adidas Silver Ball and Celia Segura claimed the Adidas Bronze Ball.

At the end of a fortnight, when she announced herself as very much a senior star in waiting, Comendador also collected the Adidas Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer, with five goals. USA’s Kennedy Fuller and Segura collected the Adidas Silver Boot and Adidas Bronze Boot, respectively.

USA’s Evan O’Steen was awarded the Adidas Golden Glove as the tournament’s leading goalkeeper.
