Asisat Oshoala has started proving to be the game-changer for Bay FC, as the Nigeria forward has now netted three game-winning goals this season, with the latest coming in a 1-0 victory over Racing Louisville FC at PayPal Park, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Nigeria international scored the decisive goal in the 75th minute, securing Bay FC’s second consecutive win and solidifying their playoff position in the National Women’s Soccer League.
Oshoala’s goal, her team-leading fourth of the season, came off an assist from debutant Penelope Hocking. The striker has now scored three game-winning goals for Bay FC, all of which have resulted in 1-0 victories.
“Oshoala’s impact on our team has been immense,” Bay FC head coach Albert Roca said after the match.
“Her ability to find the back of the net in crucial moments has been a key factor in our recent success.”
The win propelled Bay FC (8-11-0, 24 points) to seventh place in the NWSL standings, their highest position since Week 4. They now trail Portland Thorns FC by just three points and are only four points behind the fifth-placed North Carolina Courage.
Oshoala’s partnership with Hocking proved fruitful, with the latter providing the assist on her club debut as a substitute, becoming the 11th player to record an assist for Bay FC this season, showcasing the team’s depth and versatility.
The victory marked Bay FC’s second set of back-to-back wins this season and completed a regular-season sweep against both Angel City FC and Racing Louisville.
It was also the team’s fourth clean sheet this season, with goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland earning her third shutout.
As Bay FC continue their push for a playoff spot, Oshoala’s form will be crucial. The team have now scored seven goals after the 70th minute this season, including in each of their last two matches, highlighting their ability to finish games strongly.
With five games left in the regular season, Bay FC will look to maintain their momentum and secure a playoff berth in their inaugural NWSL
campaign.
