Nigeria’s hero in their 5-4 win over Japan in Thursday's football event for men at the Olympics, Oghenekaro Etebo, has spoken of his ambition to have a gold medal hung around his neck at the end of August.
Etebo scored four goals in the game at the Arena de Amazonia in Manaus but said his goals will count for nothing if they fail to win the gold medal in the men’s football event.
The former Warri Wolves man stated that he is only focused on winning the gold medal in Brazil and that the top scorer's award will come only as an addition.
“Scoring all the goals in this competition and not winning the gold medal would have amounted to a waste of effort and that's not my target. Yes, it would be great to see my efforts contributing to the success of the team, but if it will not lead us to the gold, then I don’t want it,” said Etebo at the post-match conference.
