Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has boldly stated that he is ready to play in the Spanish League having recently joined Sevilla, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Sevilla announced the signing of the 27-year-old last week with the former Leicester City player, whose contract with the Foxes expired at the end of last season, penning a two-year deal with the Andalusian club.
Last season, Iheanacho played majorly fringe roles in the Foxes’ return to the English Premier League, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 26 appearances.
The Nigeria international did not feature in Sevilla’s clash against Fulham and might not be travelling with the rest of the squad to face Liverpool at Anfield Stadium on Sunday.
However, the former Foxes player said he was ready to play in the Spanish League.
“I feel very good and am happy to come to Sevilla and to be a new Sevilla player, I am very happy to be here,” he said in an interview with the club media on Tuesday.
“Like I said before, I am very happy. I am going to play like I did in England, it is a new challenge. I am ready to play in the Spanish league and I am going to give everything for Sevilla.”
On the challenge of replacing Youssef En-Nesyri, Iheancho said, “It feels good to be here. I have followed Sevilla and I have seen the games. I don’t feel pressure. En-Nesyri was a great striker, he did a lot for the team. Now I am here, and what I want is to focus on the games and on the team and continue improving every day and make history on the pitch.”
Iheanacho could make his La Liga debut in their first game of the 2024/25 campaign against Las Palmas on Friday, August 16.
