Tottenham to battle Chelsea for Osimhen

By Daily Sports Nigeria on August 2, 2024

Tottenham Hotspur are set to challenge Chelsea in the race to sign Napoli’s prolific striker Victor Osimhen as they seek to fill the void occasioned by Harry Kane’s departure, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The North London club have been monitoring the 25-year-old Nigeria international, with Football Insider revealing that Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is desperate to sign a new striker this summer.

Osimhen, who joined Napoli in 2020 for a record €77.5m, has been a standout performer in Serie A, particularly during the 2022–23 season. However, the striker is reportedly looking to move on from the Italian giants, presenting an opportunity for Premier League clubs.

Chelsea have already engaged in aggressive negotiations with Napoli, discussing a possible cash-plus-player deal involving Romelu Lukaku. In response, Tottenham are considering including players of their own in a bid to secure Osimhen’s signature.

Any potential deal for the 25-year-old would require a significant financial investment, with Napoli having inserted a €130m release clause in his contract. It remains to be seen if Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will be willing to make such a substantial commitment.

Osimhen’s arrival at Tottenham would be a statement of intent, not only bringing much-needed clinical output but also potentially becoming the face of a new era at the club for years to come.

The striker previously shunned lucrative offers from the Saudi Pro League, with his preference for a Premier League move well documented. As the transfer saga unfolds, both Tottenham and Chelsea will be keen to secure the services of one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers.
