Famous Brazilian MMA fighter Damian Maia paid a gym visit to Israel Adesanya in Aukland, Switzerland, on Friday, a moral booster to the Swiss-Nigerian ahead of his August 17 middleweight showdown with the current UFC middleweight champion in Perth, Australia.
In a post on his social media handles, Adesanya expressed his delight at playing host to the professional mixed martial artist, submission grappler, and 5th degree Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) black belt.
“To feel honoured truly for me, being in the presence of greatness that’s bigger than just sports—it’s about a man’s character. We were blessed with a surprise guest in Demian Maia, who casually strolled into the gym with his son and took time to bestow us with his knowledge. A personal highlight for me was seeing Eugene geek out lowkey. Haha, it’s always cool to show love. Obrigado Demian, you’re cool AF,” stated Adesanya, along with several pictures of his August visitor.
Maia was even more thrilled by the occasion, with the ADCC World Championships gold medalist sharing his excitement on his Instagram page later that day, “Amazing to be with Stylebender today. Thanks Eugene and City Kick Boxing! Thanks guys for the Hei Toki! Encontro com o grande Israel Adesanya hoje em Auckland. Obrigado a ele e seu treinador Eugene pela recepção e pelo “Hei Toki.”
Since his professional debut in professional mixed martial arts in 2012, Adesanya has witnessed a meteoric rise in the game by dominating the middleweight division in the world’s leading professional mixed martial arts promotion, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
