150 Candidates Trained In Fashion, Fish Farming, Graduated In Umuahia

Abia Central Senator, Austin Akobundu has reaffirmed his readiness to ensure that youths from his zone are stired off criminal tendencies, refocused and reformed to become employers of labour.

He made the above assertion when he drew the curtain in a - 5 - day well articulated and publicized empowerment training programme for 150 beneficiaries, in the skill acquisition solely sponsored by him in Umuahia, Abia State capital yesterday.

Distinguished Senator Akobundu further told his audience that he has already scheduled to ensure a drastic departure from the usual status quo of empowerment of the youths with things of little values, to be firmly replaced with skills which will adequately equip them train others, thereby improving and providing for the economy of the central zone.

According to him, empowerment/skills acquisition are specifically designed for youths venturing into farming and fishing within the Central zone.

Senator Akobundu posited further the need for the beneficiaries to ensure that this rare opportunity extended to them is jealously guided and also to be seen as summit to reel out other programmes he has packaged, which are still evolving in the areas of education, lCT etc, he emphatically declared.

"Therefore, l am restating my unwavering commitment to the growth and well being of my constituents especially the teeming youths in many areas who l have always said are the future and leaders of tomorrow, so it's no longer a slogan but reality," he stressed.

The Senator added that he is holding firmly to his campaign promises to his people of Abia Central explaining that the training and empowerment programme were strictly in fulfillment of his electioneering promises.

"I therefore urge all the beneficiaries to properly make full use of this opportunity provided by the programme by judiciously utilizing the various items they have been empowered with, like sewing machines, cash gifts etc. This will pave way for you all to economic prosperity, if properly utilized" he further explained.

Akobundu, a Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs used the opportunity to appreciate the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, his colleagues, as well as NEPAD an agency of growth and development which he acknowledged their roles as motivators of the first order through out this programme.

In his remarks, Deputy Chairman of Abia Central Senatorial Council, Elder Sam Njoku said Senator Akobundu has empowered thousands of people under seven Months as Distinguished member of the Upper Legislative Chamber and charged the beneficiaries to see their training which was followed with provision of incentives and tools like sewing machines etc as rare privilege to cherish, he vividly observed.

In that vain, Senior Special Assistant to Senator Akobundu, on Agriculture, Elder Henry Nwaoha admonished the participants to put into practice the skills impacted in them.

He further told them to go home and train others with the knowledge they had acquired, even as he described the Distinguished Senator as selfless servant leader.

However, some of the beneficiaries from the six Local Governments that made up Abia Central spoke glowingly on their experiences during the programme and thumbed up the exemplary and visionary leadership efforts of their one stop Senator Akobundu thus far, which successfully drove the just concluded Real empowerment for the youths.

The youths unanimously pledged to put into practice all that they have learnt and reassured him that they will use the knowledge acquired to become self sufficient which is when the Senator's ultimate desire would be attained.

Highpoints of the event was the presentation of gifts items and grants such as sewing machines, cash and Certificates of Participation to all beneficiaries by the Distinguished Senator.

It would be recalled that the Coordinators and appointees of the programme were spread across the six Local Governments of the Central Senatorial zone.
