Findi George: Story Of A Rookie Coach And His Masters !

By Victor Enyinnaya on June 17, 2024

The cat seemed let out of the bag as Findi George got the full dose of what he deservedly bargained for.

Yes, he was on mission by his backers who threw him up and handed the supremo of Super Eagles chief coach seat to him without hassle.  The power that brought him unexpectedly on board technically pulled the rug off his feet and he had to throw in the towel.

It can be easily and safely regarded as love that suddenly gone sour. If you like dear readers you  can further say, it is like a typical case of hen being home to roost.

Let me be honest with you, when he was hurriedly arranged to replace the Portugese, Jose Presario who guided the Super Eagles to finals of the last Africa Cup of Nations football summit held in Cote D lvoire last year.

It caught both close watchers of the team, analysts and pundits pants down, not because he is not for any imagination but because he has no vast experience to handle such high flying flagship team like the Super Eagles. My fears were confirmed at last.

It is on record that this columnist screamed blue murder, screamed to high heavens and my cogent points against Findi’s appointment as usual fell on deaf ears, blind eyes and dumb tongues of the NFF Ibrahim Gusau led high command.

Just take critical look at it, few Months after that obvious wrong decision which came of selfishiness and blindness, Nigeria is currently in the market in search for a coach for the national team.

Today, who has been vindicated? If it is a case of laughing last, who has laughed last?  His back of the yard hurried appointment as the Super Eagles head coach, ahead his betters was the typical way and manner NFF does its head coach hiring, be it foreign or local.

This has again backfired the second in series.  We saw how Sunday Oliseh was packaged and threw at Nigerians as then Super Eagles coach. We were all witnesses how the whole thing crumbled like pack of cards and the romance ended abruptly and finger pointing at each other between Oliseh and Amaju Pinnick accusation and counter accusation against each other became the order of the day then.

One hopes Findi George will not take such inglorious path. By his nature, looks like one that may allow the sleeping dog to lie.

To put it mildly therefore, this is not the first time this kind of game is being played on Nigerians and so the purported resignation letter from Findi George was how Sunday Oliseh failed as head coach of the Super Eagles.

Nigerian football like Nigeria polity has long been captured by the few cabals. Those that have held Nigeria captive turned Nigerian football like a big tree that can no longer grow.

The NFF high command that foisted Findi George on Super Eagles and by extension, Nigerians for pure personal business sake were just unlucky that he could not go far. Absolute truth is that the Enyimba coach if he is still one has nothing to offer. One always sees his body language on the bench whether sitting or standing during games.

He has no pedigree yet to handle top flight teams be it club side or national team. Enyimba under Felix Anyansi Agwu then to unsuspecting football family did the unthinkable by hiring a rookie, Findi George as Enyimba FC handler but the veteran football administrator knew what he did and his destination until the whole years of piloting, dreams, permutations, planning came to nothingness/flames in  just one swop.

It would be recalled that the coming of Nwankwo Kanu as Chief Operating Officer of Enyimba the road where Anyansi Agwu has been using to sell players abroad closed.

Today, Findi George is gone as Super Eagles coach, what is being harvested are accusations and counter accusations from him and NFF camp. This is Nigeria for you. The eyes and ears of those that foisted the kindergarten coach on supposedly flamboyant Super Eagles on Nigerians are opened?.

Note that all these hue and cry would at the end of the day be the usual mere ritual which has become synonymous with Nigerian leaders. Findi George as usual is the sacrificial lamb, guinea pig if you like.  That is what has just happened to, he is not alone. Many have traveled this road.

Nigeria Football Federation appointment of Super Eagles coach goes like this. It has never changed and will not change with Findi George’s exit. Mark my word, Findi George will resurge in future as either the national team coach or NFF in any technical capacity once he keeps sealed lips what transpired between them.

This columnist will not blame any party for this yet another national football setback because so far Nigerian football is concerned in this context, it will keep resurfacing recurring. Look out this same NFF high command will repackage and parcel another half baked journey man as foreign technical adviser and throw at Nigerians as the best any team in the World can grab.

Let’s leave it at this level for now because many columnists, commentators’ and sundry have done justice on this all the same. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and pray for the best always and keep shooting hard till next week. Meanwhile, we wait!!
