Trabzonspor striker, Paul Onuachu, stood out among Nigerian players abroad during the weekend with a brace in their win over Istanbulspor, ABIODUN ADEWALE reports

TURKEY
PAUL ONUACHU (TRABZONSPOR)
Onuachu bagged a quick brace, scoring in the sixth and seventh minute as Trabzonspor beat Istanbulspor AS 3-0 on Sunday as they continue to cement their place in the Europa League next season. The lanky striker now has 14 goals and four assists this season. His chances of another hat-trick were cut as he was taken off in the 64th minute.
BRIGHT OSAYI-SAMUEL (FENERBAHÇE)
Osayi-Samuel was dropped to the bench for the first time in seven matches as Fenerbahçe secured a 2-0 win over Kayserispor in the Turkish Super Lig. The defender has three goals and one assist as his club keeps chasing Galatasaray for the title with six points between them and two games to go.
OLAWOYIN, AKINTOLA (RIZEPOR)
Ibrahim Olawoyin and David Akintola were involved but they could not prevent their hopes of playing in the Europa Conference League from crashing further as they lost 2-1 against Pendikspor. Despite scoring first through Jonjo Shelvey, Rizespor conceded two second half goals which left them hanging eighth in the table and nine points behind Basaksehir, the holders of the spot.
FISAYO DELE-BASHIRU (HATAYASPOR)
Dele-Bashiru played another 90 minutes for Hatayaspor as they continued t fight against relegation with a 2-1 win over Ankaragucu. With two games to go, they are 18th in the table with 37 points and one point away from safety.
GERMANY
BONIFACE, TELLA (LEVERKUSEN)
Boniface scored his 13th league goal of the season from the spot as German champions Bayer Leverkusen extended their unbeaten run to 50 games in all competitions with a win over 10-man Bochum.
ENGLAND
JOE ARIBO (SOUTHAMPTON)
Aribo played for 90 minutes as Southampton began their quest for a return to the Premier League with a goalless draw against West Brom in the first leg of their semi-final clash in the playoffs. The Saints will host the second leg at the St. Mary’s next week.
SEMI AJAYI (SOUTHAMPTON)
Ajayi also came on as a late substitute for West Brom in the goalless draw against Southampton. They will hope to turn the tide around in the second leg next week.
THE NETHERLANDS
CHUBA AKPOM (AJAX)
Akpom has now contributed to Ajax’s goals in three consecutive games after providing another assist in the 3-0 win over Almere City. The former Middlesbrough man set up the second goal for Ajax’s hat-trick hero Steven Bergwijn. The 28-year-old finished the season with 11 goals and three assists as Ajax were dethroned to a place in the Europa League playoffs.

EJUKE, YUSUF (ANTWERP)
After being benched in their Belgian Cup final defeat last Thursday, Chidera Ejuke and Alhassan Yusuf returned to the starting lineup for Antwerp in their league title playoff game against Cercle Brugge KSV. The result however didn’t matter as Antwerp will remain bottom of the championship playoffs.
FRANCE
ROFIAT IMURAN (REIMS)
Super Falcons player Imuran was a second half substitute as her Reims side were hammered 6-0 by Lyon in the semi-finals of the French women’s top division playoffs. Reims will now face Chiamaka Nnadozie’s Paris FC in the third-place match on Thursday while PSG and Lyon will face off in the final on Friday.

STANLEY NWABALI (CHIPPA UNITED)
Super Eagles goalkeeper Nwabali let in a goal on Sunday as Chippa United settled for a 1-1 draw against Golden Arrows in a mid-table battle of the South African league. The goalkeeper’s number of clean sheets in the league this season stands a 10.
SPAIN
MONDAY, BABAJIDE (TENERIFE)
In a mid-table battle in the Spanish women’s top division, Nigeria duo Gift Monday and Rinsola Babajide, who both started the game could not help Tenerife avoid a 1-0 home defeat against Real Sociedad. While Monday has five goals and one assist in 25 games, Babajide has scored three and provided seven goals as well in 27 games.
TONI PAYNE (SEVILLA)
Midfielder Payne was in action for Sevilla against Huelva at home on Sunday. In 26 games, she boats of six goals and four assists as Sevilla lurk in the seventh position.
USA
ASISAT OSHOALA (BAY FC)
After sitting out their last game, Oshoala returned to the starting lineup for Bay FC against Orlando Pride but it was another dry day in office for the forward as they were beaten 1-0. It was their seventh defeat in nine matches as they sit 12th in the 14-team league with just six points. Oshoala has scored just two goals in eight appearances for the club.
NICOLE PAYNE (PORTLAND THORNS)
Payne made her fourth NWSL appearance for Portland Thorns as they beat Seattle Reign 4-0. She was taken off in the 85th minute and she is yet to register any goal in the league this season.

ENGLAND
OSHO, ONYEDINMA (LUTON)
Defender, Gabriel Osho and Fred Onyedinma featured in Luton Town’s 3-1 Premier League loss to West Ham United FC, but they are still hanging in the battle to survive relegation with just one game to go. They sit 18th in the table, just three points behind Nottingham Forest. They need a win against Fulham in their last game next Sunday while they will also need Forest to lose against relegated Burnley with as many as 12 goals margin to be sure of safety.
AWONIYI, AINA (NOTTINGHAM FOREST)
It was a thriller at the City Ground on Saturday evening but two late goals condemned Aina, who put in an impressive shift and Awoniyi, who came on as a second half substitute to a 3-2 defeat against Chelsea. The defeat further puts Forest in danger of relegation but they still have their hopes alive as their fate is tied with Luton – a team they lead by three points – as they play already relegated Burnley next week.
IWOBI, BASSEY (FULHAM)
Arsenal needed Iwobi and some of their former players to help turn the tide against Manchester City at Craven Cottage but there was nothing the Nigerian midfielder could do to help the Gunners title fight as Fulham went down 4-0 against the champions. Bassey was also involved as part of the defence that let four in.

CHIAMAKA NNADOZIE (PARIS FC)
Super Falcons keeper, Nnadozie, stood out for Paris FC Feminines in their 2-2 draw against PSG, but her penalty heroics didn’t come to play in their 5-4 loss, ending their D1Arkema final hopes.

SAMSON TIJANI (WOLFSBERGER AC)
Former Golden Eaglets captain Tijani scored for Wolfsberger AC in their impressive 4-0 Bundesliga victory over Austria Vienna.
BELGIUM
TOLU AROKODARE (GENK)
Arokodare netted his 12th league goal for KRC Genk, but they suffered a tough 2-1 defeat away to Anderlecht in the Belgian Jupiler League title playoffs. The result leaves them fourth and 12 points adrift of leaders Club Brugge.
GREECE
KEHINDE FATAI (LARISSA)
Kehinde Fatai scored his sixth goal in nine Super League 2 games to inspire Larissa to a 2-1 away win at Levadiakos.
ITALY
VICTOR OSIMHEN (NAPOLI)
Osimhen was shut out as Napoli stumbled to a 2-0 Serie A home defeat against Bologna. The result dashed the champion’s hope of playing in Europe next season, just as the striker, who is nearing the end of his spell at the Diego Maradona Stadium has 15 goals and three assists in the league.
SAMUEL CHUKWUEZE (AC MILAN)
Chukwueze played the first half of AC Milan’s 5-1 crushing of Cagliari at the San Siro. It was the second consecutive start in recent times for the player who hasn’t really enjoyed much game time since arriving at the club in the summer.
PORTUGAL
CHRISTY UCHEIBE (BENFICA)
Ucheibe secured her fourth league title with SL Benfica Futebol Feminino, who won 2-1 against Racing Power FC to retain their Liga BPI crown.
SCOTLAND
CYRIEL DESSERS (RANGERS)
Dessers scored Rangers FC’s consolation goal in their 2-1 Old Firm derby defeat to Celtic, making their chances of winning the league more difficult. The striker has 15 league goals this term.
SPAIN
Rasheedat Ajibade (Atletico)
Atlético De Madrid Féminas April Player of The Month Ajibade, impressed for the club, scoring and assisting in their thrilling 3-2 away win against Real Madrid CF in the Primera División Femenina. Ajibade’s goal was her 40th club career goal.
