Eke praises teammates for BAL form

By Daily Sports Nigeria on May 10, 2024

Rivers Hoopers forward Divine Eke has credited his teammates for his incredible form at the ongoing Sahara Conference of the Basketball Africa League in Dakar, Senegal, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Asides being one of the forces behind Hoopers’ undefeated run in the first round of games, Eke has been among the standout players at the Dakar Arena, averaging 21 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.

He has 33 per cent shooting on three points while his field goal percentage of all shots taken stands at 64 per cent.

Ahead of their fourth game of the round-robin series against AS Douanes of Senegal – whom they beat 77-68 last Saturday, Eke praised his teammates for inspiring his form.

“I put in a lot of work in the off-season and I was just very prepared for this moment,” Eke told BAL daily.

“I’m very excited to be here and my teammates are the real reasons why I’m playing the way I’m playing. Everyone has been so nice to one another. We’ve been here and the common goal is to win.”

The 27-year-old, who made his national team debut with the Nigeria senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, at the 2025 AfroBasket qualifiers in Tunisia in February, where he averaged 22 points, 8.3 rebounds and five assists in three games, reiterated his desire to win at the BAL and, in the process, put Nigerian basketball back on the map.

“I want to win. I want to win the championship. I want to go to Rwanda, and I want to do big things. Like I said before, putting Nigerian basketball back where it’s supposed to be is the big thing I want to do,” he
said.
