Suspended SWAN Secretary General Cannot Sign Official Letters -Nyong

By Daily Sports Nigeria on April 22, 2024

The President, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Otuekong Bonny Nyong says a purported letter signed by the suspended Secretary-General of the Association, Ikenna Okonkwo, addressed to the immediate past president, Sir Honour Sirawoo, Ph.D is null and void, and of no effect.

The purported letter had asked the former president to hand over the Association's properties in his possession.

Otuekong Nyong declared that Ikenna Okonkwo, who has been suspended by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of SWAN lacks the propriety and authority to sign any letter on behalf of the Association following his interdiction for insubordination and neglect of duties.

According to him, "it is laughable because the suspended secretary-general lacks the tact and sobriety to even understand what he represents and what he should do in moments like this.

"While himself and the impeached president, Isaiah Benjamin were in office, why didn't they seek clarifications on matters that were clearly beyond their understanding and reason. It proves outrightly that they lack administrative acumen and progress.

"From our records, the former president, Sir Honour Sirawoo is not in possession of any SWAN property and it is even sad that people who are no longer in office are the ones trying to blackmail their benefactor."

The SWAN President called on sports journalists and discerning members of the public to ignore the fake letter, which did not emanate from the National Secretariat of SWAN.

He noted that security agencies have been informed of the activities of Isaiah Benjamin and Ikenna Okonkwo, adding that anyone who deals with them on behalf of SWAN has taken a huge risk that will have no value.
