Nigeria’s men and women’s table tennis teams continued their quest for more medals at the African Games after they cruised to the next round of the team event, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

While the men’s team reached the quarter-finals of the team’s event, the women’s team zoomed to the semis on Wednesday.

In Group 2 of the men’s team event, Nigeria’s Matthew Kuit and Amadi Omeh defeated Mauritania’s trio Ahmed El Hacen, Ahmed Youssef and Sagna Hamina 3-0 in their opening game before outclassing DR Congo duo Kassa Gedon and Christian Mbongia by the same scoreline in their second group game.

In the women’s team event, trio Offiong Edem, Esther Oribamise and Fatimo Bello also recorded two wins in their group.

They defeated their Madagascan counterparts Hanitra Raharimanana, Mahenika Andriamanatena and Ranto Rakotondrazaka as well as Algeria’s Lucie Mobarek and Lynda Loghraibi to seal their place in the last eight.

They are joined by Egypt, South Africa and Tunisia in the semi-finals of the event after topping their groups, while they await the second placed teams in the four groups to determine their opponents in the semis.

Quadri Aruna had won silver in the men’s singles event after losing 4-3 in the final to Egypt’s Omar Assar in Accra, Ghana on Tuesday.

Offiong Edem had earlier won bronze in the women’s singles event.
