Sports minister seeks financial support for Eagles ahead of AFCON final

By Daily Sports Nigeria on February 9, 2024

Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, has urged Nigerians to support the Super Eagles as they gear up for the Africa Cup of Nations final against hosts Ivory Coast in Ebimpe on Sunday.

The minister in a press statement he signed and released dated February 8 emphasised the unifying power of sports, noting that the private sector and individuals should support the Super Eagles financially.

He commended the Eagles for embodying the resilient and indomitable Nigerian spirit, which he believed had captivated the nation and fostered a sense of unity like never before.

Acknowledging the financial constraints faced by the government amidst competing national priorities, Enoh stressed the necessity for private individuals and corporate entities to step up and provide crucial support to the Super Eagles.

“The current administration of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has demonstrated full support to the national team unprecedented in the contemporary history of sports administration in our country.

“In the face of paucity of funds amidst competing national priorities, it has become self-evident and abundantly clear that government alone cannot fund sports development in our country. It is based on the understanding of this reality that I am making this impassioned appeal to private individuals and corporate Nigeria to support our national team, the Super Eagles, to win the African Cup of Nations trophy.

“My expectation is that public-spirited individuals and corporate Nigeria should make a promise of financial support to the Super Eagles team in the likelihood of their winning the final match on Sunday. This will be announced to the team ahead of the Sunday match.”

With the Super Eagles on the brink of winning a fourth title, Enoh noted the importance of motivating and inspiring the players as they strive to bring home the coveted trophy.

For those willing to pledge their support, Enoh directed pledges and commitments to be made directly to the Super Eagles Team Manager, Enebi Achor, reachable at +2348037860516.
