Ademola Lookman’s dad is delighted with his son’s match winning goal against Angola that saw Nigeria progress to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations last Friday, Sunday Punch reports.
Nigeria prevailed with a 1-0 win, with Atalanta’s Lookman finding the net in the 41st minute – his third of the competition.
Following their victory, Nigeria will face either Cape Verde or South Africa in the last four.
Lookman’s father was interviewed after the game and said, “It’s an understatement if I say I’m happy, I’m overwhelmed, I am so much happy.
“At least for Nigeria winning this game, because it is an advantage for us and it gives us the drive to play the next game and win.
Lookman’s father also predicted that the Eagles will win their semi-final clash against either Cape Verde or South Africa next Wednesday.
“We are going to win, I want to assure you,” he said.
Former Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo, also heaped plaudits on Lookman, for his stellar performance at the tournament in Ivory Coast.
“I am happy for Lookman at this tournament because he has been getting us the goals,” Yobo told Afrosports.
“This is his third goal in AFCON and I love the way he handled each game. His combination with Osimhen, has been great.”
Nigeria have been solid defensively and have kept things tight at the back, conceding just one goal, and keeping four clean sheets in five games and are set for a thrilling semi-final clash in Ivory Coast.
Meanwhile, it wasn’t all good news for Nigeria, with Victor Osimhen having to be taken off on a stretcher after suffering an injury.
Nigeria face an anxious wait to see whether Osimhen will be available for Wednesday’s semi-final.
