Iheanacho trains with Eagles

By Daily Sports Nigeria on January 17, 2024

Nigerian forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, has rejoined the Super Eagles training camp following recovery from an injury as the team prepares for their next match against hosts Ivory Coast at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

His return comes as a significant boost to the Nigerian squad, who are eager to make their mark in the tournament and desperate to win their next game after dropping points in their first match.

The Eagles played out a 1-1 draw in their opening game against Equatorial Guinea, held at the Alassanne Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan. Iheanacho was unable to play in the game due as he was still struggling for match fitness.

However, recent developments indicate that he has fully recovered and is ready to contribute to the team’s title chase.

According to a post by Soar Super Eagles on X, where they posted Iheanacho’s picture in training kits with the caption, “Seniorman Kelz gets on with the boys.”

Iheanacho will likely feature against Ivory Coast and his presence is expected to add both depth and experience to the Nigerian squad.

The Super Eagles, under coach Jose Peseiro’s guidance, are aiming to qualify for the round of 16.

Nigeria already called up replacements for Victor Boniface, Wilfred Ndidi and Sadiq Umar due to injures. Having Iheanacho back in the fold will be huge positive for the side in their quest for their fourth AFCON title in Abidjan.

This year’s AFCON is broadcast live in Nigeria by StarTimes.
