After securing a 1-1 draw against Nigeria in their first match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper Jesus Owono said the Nzalang Nacional were not afraid of the star-studded Super Eagles, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Despite Nigeria’s dominance, Equatorial Guinea scored first in the 36th minute through Iván Salvador, who exquisitely guided the ball into the bottom corner from his position inside the box while African Player of The Year, Victor Osimhen, responded for Nigeria immediately.
Nigeria had chances before the deadlock was broken and could have also sealed the game in the second half, but the Equatorial Guineans had Owono to thank for his fantastic saves, which denied the Eagles on six different occasions.
Owono won Man of The Match Award for his stellar show and was quick to boast about his team’s display after the game.
“We were not scared of Nigeria. The union of a team makes a difference,” he said.
