Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers are targeting Viktoria Plzen striker Rafiu Durosinmi in a £10m deal for January, but they face competition from a number of clubs including Eintracht Frankfurt who currently lead the race to sign the Nigerian.
Durosinmi, 20, has emerged as a top target for Wolves in the winter window as head coach Gary O’Neil moves to sign a new No 9.
Wolves’ recruitment team have scouted the highly rated Nigerian attacker frequently this year and this week held fresh talks with Plzen, the Czech First League club, over a potential deal.
Finances will be restricted as Wolves owners Fosun makes a determined attempt to comply with the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules, but Durosinmi fits the club’s profile and price range. He has scored nine goals already this season, including three in the Europa Conference League.
Plzen are seeking a package of up to £10 million and it is understood Wolves are aware of rival interest from other clubs, including Eintracht. Personal terms are, at this stage, thought to be a stumbling block to a deal being completed, while Durosinmi is also recovering from a knee injury that is expected to keep him out for another month.
But Wolves are retaining an interest and hope to make further progress on a possible transfer before the January transfer window opens.
Wolves’ pursuit of Durosinmi confirms that some transfer funds will be made available for O’Neil, who failed to sign a forward in the final days of the summer window.
