Super Falcons midfielder, Deborah Abiodun, has expressed delight following her nomination for the CAF Young Player of The Year Award.
The 20-year-old alongside Opeyemi Ajakaye and Oluwatosin Demehin are the three Nigerians nominated for the award for players not more than 21 years.
The Confederation of African Football on Tuesday unveiled the CAF Awards 2023 nominees for women with 10 Falcons players nominated in different categories.
The Falcons had a remarkable year having gotten to the round of 16 of the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand and were very close to qualifying for the quarter-finals before being knocked out of the competition on penalties by England.
In the encounter against the Lionesses, Abiodun was shown a controversial red card.
Its been a great season for the midfielder so far this season, scoring five goals for Pittsburg Panthers.
Reacting to her nomination, Abiodun wrote on her X account, “Thrilled to be nominated for CAF Young Player of the Year!
“This journey wouldn’t be the same without the incredible support from coaches, teammates, friends, family and fans. Your belief in me keeps me pushing boundaries. Let’s continue this adventure together!”
The Awards Gala is to be graced by the crème de la crème of African football on December 11 in Marrakech, Morocco.
