Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has celebrated the victory of Nigerian boxer, Efe Ajagba, over Australian Joe Goodall on Sunday.
The hard-hitting Nigerian stopped Australia’s Goodall in the fourth round of their 10-round main event at the Tahoe Blue Event Center in, Nevada, United States of America.
The fourth-round knockout was a form of revenge for Ajagba who had lost to Goodall by a decision at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland where he finished with a bronze medal.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, on Monday in Asaba, the Governor commended the triumph of the WBC heavyweight contender for the deserved victory over a formidable opponent.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I congratulate our illustrious son and boxing champion, Efe Ajagba, on the successful defence of his WBC silver heavyweight title
“With this victory, Ajagba has successfully defended his WBC title for the first time as he continues to build his name in the heavyweight division,” the statement read.
Oborevwori lauded Ajagba for his courage and discipline on and off the ring, and prayed that Sunday’s success would be a stepping stone to fulfill his ambition of becoming the undisputed World heavyweight boxing champion.
The Delta State governor believes that the accomplishments of Ajagba on the world stage will inspire many upcoming boxing professionals, to continue to believe in themselves for victory.
