ITTF rankings: Quadri drops, Mati, Omotayo move up

Aruna Quadri dropped one spot from 15th to 16th in the latest International Table Tennis Federation world rankings for October, The PUNCH reports.

Despite the drop, the 34-year-old is still the top-ranked player in Africa, having accumulated 1,175 points during the month under review.

Egypt’s Omar Assar is second in Africa after he retained his 20th spot in the world ranking.

Ahmed Saleh is ranked third in Africa and 55th globally.

Mohammed El-Beilal is placed fourth after he moved one step up to 65th position.

In fifth place is Algeria’s Mehdi Bouloussa who also stepped up a spot to 93. Ibrahima Diaw and Taiwo Mati are the other Africans in the top 100.

Diaw is ranked 98 with 208 points while Mati is placed 99th in the latest ranking having recorded 207 points in the month under review.

China’s Fan Zhendong tops the current ranking with a total point of 6410. His countrymen Chuqin Wang and Ma Long are second and third respectively having polled a point haul of 4795 and 3865 respectively.

Brazil’s Hugo Calderano and Liang Jingkun from China complete the top five.

Olajide Omotayo, Bode Abiodun, Amadi Omeh also moved up in the latest ranking published by the ITTF.

Omotayo moved up a step to 109 in the world just as Abiodun is ranked 152nd. Omeh on his part is ranked 172nd with 81 points.

In the women’s category, Nigeria’s women’s top-ranked player, Fatimo Bello, is ranked 118th in the world, while Offiong Edem occupies 142nd position.

Esther Oribamise is ranked 151st with Ajoke Ojomu also dropping a spot to place 194th.

Seven-time Olympian Funke Oshonaike also slumped in the rankings to place 210th.

Meanwhile, Chinese players Sun Yingsha, Chen Meng and Wang Yidi maintained their dominance, occupying the top three spots, respectively.
