Barca want free agent Ndidi in 2024

By Daily Sports Nigeria on September 27, 2023

Barca Universal, a Spanish publication, has reported that LaLiga champions, Barcelona, are open to signing Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi on a free transfer.

The Blaugrana’s financial crisis has been well documented forcing the club into relying on free-agent players.

As has been the case in the past few transfer windows, Barcelona have heavily relied on players who were out of contracts and this season they signed İlkay Gündoğan from Manchester City, Iñigo Martínez from Athletic Bilbao while also bringing in Portuguese duo Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo on loans from Atletico Madrid and Manchester City respectively.

Given the club’s far-from-ideal financial situation, the LaLiga champions next year will once again be looking for bargains and market opportunities to strengthen their squad and Barca Universal wrote that the club had already identified some players with expiring contracts as potential targets.

Top on the list of players shortlisted is Ndidi, who is set to become a free agent next summer as his contract with the Foxes expires then.

And Barça are closely monitoring his situation as they weigh up a possible move to snap him up on a Bosman deal.

A proven performer, Ndidi has enjoyed success in the Premier League and is currently performing very well in the EFL Championship following Leicester’s relegation.

This is not the first time that Barcelona have shown interest in Ndidi.

They had made a bid for the 26-year-old a few seasons ago but were put off by the Foxes’ asking price of €70m.

But now that he could be available for free, the Blaugrana are understood to be interested, given that he is a reliable and proven defensive midfielder.

But there is likely to be competition for Ndidi’s services come summer as clubs such as Bayern Munich, Juventus and Atletico Madrid had already shown an interest in him this year and could return in 2024.
