Following his impressive performance, Nigeria international, Ademola Lookman, has been named in the Serie A team of the week for matchday 5.
After a slow start to the season, the 25-year-old used the international break to kickstart his season, getting on the scoresheet as Nigeria defeated Sao Tome and Principe 6-0 in their final game of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Lookman continued his fine display with a goal for Atalanta against Cagliari in a Serie A fixture played at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday, taking his tally to 2 goals from 5 games this season.
The winger opened the scoring for the Black and the Blues in the 33rd minute before Croatian midfielder Mario Pasalic doubled their advantage in the 76th minute to help Atalanta record a 2-0 victory.
Football statistics website, Whoscored.com has named the Nigerian forward in the Serie A team of the week. He was listed in the forward line alongside other standout players over the weekend, such as Sassuolo’s Domenico Berardi and Torino forward Jovane Cabral.
In the 3-4-3 formation, Lookman is on the left flank alongside two forwards, who were excellent over the weekend.
Domenico Berardi scored a spectacular goal in Sassuolo’s stunning 4-2 victory over former champions Juventus, while Cape Verdean forward Jovane Cabral scored a second-half equalizer to earn a point for Salernitana at home to Frosinone.
Lookman was given a rating of 8.32 out of 10, with Florentina goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano’s rating of 9.08 the highest in the team.
The former Everton forward will hope he can maintain the form throughout the season to help Atalanta fight for one of European places.
